Debbie O’Toole Scheffelin, M.A., has her UCSD College Counseling Certificate, her Master of Arts in Management from the University of Redlands, and a Bachelor of Social Welfare from San Diego State University. In addition to providing independent college admissions counseling, she works on a seasonal basis for the UCSD Admissions Department (previously for UC Davis Admissions Department), reviewing freshmen applications during the UC admissions cycle.  She and her husband have two children - a son who is in his 3rd year at UCSD's School of Medicine and a daughter who studied mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley as a Regents' Scholar and is currently employed with Boeing Satellite Systems as a structural analyst.

Debbie provides college admissions counseling to all high school students interested in all majors in both public and private universities; however, she has additional expertise in working with students who have an interest in the science and medical fields (all STEM- science, technology, engineering, and math- majors). Consequently, Debbie created and conducts workshops at the Poway Unified School District's College Fair and the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, instructing high school students about nationwide early acceptance medical/dental/veterinarian school programs for incoming freshman.
Prior to providing college counseling services, Debbie worked many years in human resources management (Scripps Memorial Hospital, Pathology Medical Laboratories, JobSummit.com) particularly in the recruiting and employment arena, holding seminars teaching job seekers how to market themselves. She uses a similar strategy for students who wish to market themselves to colleges.
Debbie volunteered many hours with the Poway Unified School District, most recently, founding the Poway High School Science Olympiad and assisting Twin Peaks Middle School with starting their own Science Olympiad.  She continues to volunteer for the San Diego Regional Science Olympiad on competition day.
